During the Exam, I got the question on what happened in an Auction game if there was a tie. After some thoughts, my response to this was: “I would not like to answer this question”. And I added: “But there is information in this statement”.
Huh? The argument was this: You were asked to find a mixed NE. But the action set was continuous. If I would have said that “Oh, yes, sorry, I forgot to add that information to the exam question”, then I would have suggested that the answer was a mixed strategy on a discrete distribution. But on the other hand, if I said that “it does not matter”, then I would have implied that it was a continuous distribution, with a zero probability of ties.
On the third hand, since I did not want to add any more information to the Exam Question, then I really provided information that it was a continuous distibution anyway, didn’t I…?
Another more boring answer to this is that it won’t matter much because of the revenue equivalence theorem, and that was the second part of the same question.

True or False question:
“Everyone will answer the same on this question.” (2p)
On the table in the class room, there is a sealed envelope. Let us state the above question on this exam, but I as the examiner also chip in a response. That is, my response in the envelope is “False” or “True”, and it is valued exactly as your responses to this question.
However, my credit (2p or 0p) will be added to all your scores on the exam.
This was one on the questions on the Exam. The idea here is that in order to apply Game Theory to this question you first need to address what my pay-offs are.
You might be interested in what the participants played. 8 played False and 3 played True.
I did play False, so you all get two additional credits (points) on your exam. Congratulations!

Vi söker en eller flera doktorand till Institutionen för transporter och samhällsekonomi. För denna tjänst söker vi kvalificerade doktorander som är intresserad av kvalificerad forskning. Doktorandtjänsten har tämligen fri finansiering och dess innehåll kan därför komma att påverkas av doktoranden själv, beroende på kvalifikation och intresse.
Du bör vara samhällsintresserad och intresserad av matematisk modellering. Våra forskningsområden berör samhällsekonomi (nationalekonomi) och transporter i vid mening, där vi använder bland annat matematisk modellering, optimeringsmetoder och ekonometri.
De problem som vi forskar på är ofta relaterat till hur människor beter sig och gör sina val, varför våra forskningsprojekt ofta är tvärvetenskapliga med inslag av neurovetenskap, mikroekonomi, beteendeekonomi och psykologi, samtidigt som vi ofta använder kvalificerade matematiska modeller och ekonometri och/eller avancerade datorberäkningar på stora datamängder.
Doktorandprojektet kommer delvis att kunna formuleras beroende på kvalifikationer och intresse hos sökanden.
Om du inte är klar med din examen än så finns det möjlighet att påbörja inom ramen för projektanställning eller examensarbete.

Nu har vi resultat från projektuppgiften! Om man tittar på resultaten och fördelningarna så ser det rätt intressant ut i ljuset av uppsatsen som vi har använt. Intressant, tycker jag. Kolla in resultaten!

Projektuppgiften May 12, 2010

Projektuppgiften ska betraktas som en större del av kursen. Man kan räkna med att få lägga ned en hel del tid på att programmera jämvikten i den aktuella auktionen. De flesta har nu lämnat in projektuppgiften vilket är jättebra! Ni som har rest försök göra det så fort som möjligt före tentan.
Kom ihåg: Att klara projektuppgiften är en större del av kursen. Att klara tentan ska anses vara lättare. Det räcker med att kunna använda, välja, definiera och räkna på NE, CE, SPE, BNE, SE/PBE. Klarar man det, klarar man tentan. Ska man ha högre betyg behöver man klara lite mer. Slutbetyget bestäms sen också av betyget på projektuppgiften.

Now we have had our first lecture. The rest of the course we will be formalizing the key concepts and solution concepts that we briefly discussed today.
I got questions about Reading Guide for the book. I will provide three reading guides. First, the main book (Osborne, 2004), but also the old book (Osborne and Rubinfeld). And there is a third book: Fudenberg and Tirole for those of you who want a more mathematical exposition of the material.
The reading guides will be provided this week.
